Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has been tipped to join Liverpool this summer.

The Belgian international will officially end his ten-year stay at the Emirates this season when his current Manchester City contract expires.

De Bruyne joined City from Vfl Wolfsburg back in August 2015 in a £55m move.

Since his transfer to the Premier League, the 33-year-old has established himself as one of the best players in the world.

Since making his debut for City, no other midfielder has had more assists than him across Europe’s top five leagues.

De Bruyne has 107 goals and 177 assists in 415 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.

His passing and vision were key in City’s dominance in the last eight years under Guardiola.

However, the 33-year-old is set to end his chapter at the Emirates at the end of this season, and several clubs abroad have been linked with a swoop for him.

The Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer are seen as viable options for the Belgian, with the possibility of landing a windfall making those transfers attractive options.

However, a new report in De Bruyne’s native Belgium has thrown up Liverpool as a likely destination for De Bruyne.

According to De Standaard, a move to Liverpool cannot be ruled out.

The outlet mentions his Grandfather’s support for the Reds as one reason, while also referring to De Bruyne’s claim that a Premier League stay is “possible” beyond this summer.

Last week, De Bruyne gave a fresh update on his future, indicating that no decision has been made on what club he will join after leaving City.

The midfielder was also asked about the possibility of signing for a rival Premier League club rather than a move abroad.

“I don’t know.

I love football.

“I love to play football, and if a nice project comes, and my family is good with that, then we are able to make a decision.”

Interestingly, De Bruyne has previously admitted being keen on playing for Liverpool one day.

Speaking while still playing for KRC Genk in his childhood, the 33-year-old admitted he supports Liverpool.

De Bruyne revealed at the age of 11: “My favourite club is Liverpool and my favourite player is Michael Owen, and I would like to play there one day.”

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah also has previously said he would love to play with De Bruyne, naming the Manchester City legend as his dream teammate behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Messi or Ronaldo, but if I pick one in the Premier League, I choose Kevin, because he has vision and I’m sure he can find me anywhere with the ball, so I could say Messi and Ronaldo and Kevin,” the Egyptian said, when asked to name a player he would love play with.

It seems unlikely that Liverpool will make a move for De Bruyne, considering FSG’s youth-centric policy?

At 33, the Belgian is approaching the twilight of his career.

His wage demands could also tear up the Reds’ current wage bill.
